Doncaster gardener turns author with debut children’s book

A Doncaster gardener has swapped the allotment for authorship releasing her very first children’s book last month.

Jenna Steventon, born and bred in Doncaster, has turned her love of growing into a creative new project, writing and publishing her own book, The Allotment Avenger.

Jenna has spent the last few years building a passion for growing her own produce, and secured her own allotment plot around three years ago.

“It’s something I absolutely love,” said Jenna. “Most who know me associate me with growing and my allotment”.

She’s also been sharing her journey online, sharing her journey on TikTok and YouTube under Allotment Newbie Jenna, posting updates and tips to followers.

But the idea for the book came from an unexpected place.

“I was using AI to create a superhero logo based on me and my allotment,” Jenna explained. “That’s when I came up with the name Jenna – The Allotment Avenger… and I realised it sounded like a children’s book.”

After previously attempting to write a book years ago without success, Jenna decided to give it another go, but this time inspired by her own life.

Just a few months later, The Allotment Avenger was complete.

“I never thought I’d ever write a book, never mind get it published,” she said.

Jenna published the book herself through Amazon, and she’s already working on the sequel.

The story blends creativity, gardening and imagination,  encouraging children to engage with nature in a fun and accessible way.

Doncaster creativity growing from the ground up – quite literally!
