The upcoming series A Woman of Substance is using Doncaster’s own Brodsworth Hall as a filming location.

It’s bringing cameras, cast and crew to one of the region’s most iconic heritage sites.

The eight-part drama is based on the bestselling novel by Barbara Taylor Bradford. It tells the story of Emma Harte, a determined woman who rises from working as a maid in Yorkshire to becoming one of the world’s wealthiest business leaders.

Filming has taken place across several Yorkshire locations, including Barnsley Town Hall and Ilkley Moor.

Brodsworth Hall’s period architecture and grounds help recreate the story’s early-20th-century setting.

The new adaptation will bring the classic rags-to-riches story back to TV, more than 40 years after the original series became one of Channel 4’s biggest ever dramas.

Leading the cast as Emma is Brenda Blethyn, best known for her role in Vera

The series follows Emma’s journey from an impoverished housemaid in 1911 Yorkshire, to a powerful businesswoman running a global empire from New York.

For Doncaster, the production shines another spotlight on the area’s historic locations, giving residents a chance to spot a familiar setting when the show hits our screens.

    Small city, big impact.
