If you’ve been hearing the word padel everywhere lately, you’re not alone.
And finally, Doncaster has been granted its very own padel courts.
Nested in a rural area just outside the city centre, Lake Y has quickly become one of Doncaster’s most exciting new sport and wellness destinations. While padel courts may be the main draw, what’s happening here goes far beyond a game of doubles.
Padel is a fast-paced racket sport played in doubles, combining elements of tennis and squash. It is played on an enclosed court smaller than a tennis court, making rallies longer and games more social.
Search interest for padel in the UK has increased by 165% in the past year, hitting an all-time high.
It is easy to pick up and suitable for all ages, so no wonder it’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK!
Lake Y is home to two brand-new, state-of-the-art padel courts.
The courts are open seven days a week and set against a scenic lakeside backdrop in Auckley. No more trekking to Sheffield to get your padel fix!
The courts offer a calm, high-quality environment that is ideal whether you are trying padel for the first time or looking to level up your skills.
Coaching sessions run regularly, and Lake Y has already hosted beginner-friendly tournaments, helping make the sport welcoming to all.

Courts are available on a pay-and-play basis, with prices typically ranging from £30 to £40 per hour per court.
All padel bookings at Lake Y are handled online via Playtomic.
You can book a court on their site.
Their padel courts are available to book throughout the week.
Weekdays: 7am to 9pm

Padel may be the headline act, but Lake Y is developing as a full health, wellbeing and outdoor leisure destination.
Current facilities include open-water swimming sessions, paddleboarding and outdoor yoga, and a one-kilometre lakeside running route. Future plans for the space include a lakeside café, future lodge accommodation and camping pitches, and a planned wellbeing centre with gym space, studios and saunas.
A place where you can train, unwind, socialise and switch off, all in one setting.
Lake Y is located on Hayfield Lane in Auckley, just five to ten minutes from Doncaster city centre.
Despite the peaceful lakeside feel, it is easy to reach thanks to strong motorway links via the M18 and A1(M), making it accessible from across Doncaster and South Yorkshire.

Lake Y is helping shape a new kind of leisure offering for Doncaster, blending sport, nature, wellbeing and community in a modern and accessible way.
Padel might be the hook, but the wider vision is what makes Lake Y stand out, with more developments planned through 2026 and beyond.
