RAF roadshow brings aviation spirit back to Doncaster

The Royal Air Force brought a taste of life in the skies to Doncaster this weekend, as a recruitment roadshow took over the Corn Exchange.

The free event gave visitors the chance to meet RAF personnel and explore the wide range of careers available in the force.

From CPR training and e-sports gaming to virtual reality experiences, there was plenty to get stuck into, but one feature stole the show.

A huge 55-inch Chinook helicopter replica, built right outside the corn exchange, quickly became the main attraction for visitors.

The Don team headed down to the RAF roadshow to see what it was about.

We even managed to grab a quick video from the pilot’s seat.

Doncaster has a long-standing history with aviation.

The former RAF base at Finningley played a key role during both the Second World War and the Cold War, making the town an important part of Britain’s air power history.

Flight Sergeant Daniel Eccles, who organised the event, said: “Doncaster has a proud aviation history through RAF Finningley, and we’re excited to bring the RAF Town Show to the city so people can see how that legacy continues today.”

The RAF’s nationwide tour is set to visit 15 towns and cities across the UK in the coming months, giving more people the chance to experience it for themselves.
