Behind the Doncaster food spots in the viral Only Scrans Youtube video

“Doncaster is HIDING some of the best UK food”.

Doncaster’s food scene is getting national attention after the viral YouTuber Only Scrans visited the city.

The creator, whose real name is Jonathon ‘Jono’ Yates, has built a huge following by travelling around the UK reviewing local food spots.

He recently stopped off in Doncaster as part of his latest food tour, and it seems he left impressed!

Amy’s Noodle & Confectionery Bar

  • Authentic Chinese Noodles

Only Scrans’ first stop was Amy’s Noodle & Confectionery Bar, based inside Doncaster Market.

The market is full of local independent stalls, with Amy’s noodle bar tucked right away in the corner.

Amy’s one-woman market stall has been serving up traditional Chinese hand-pulled noodles for over five years. Her most popular dish is the Beef Noodle Soup, with Amy lovingly forming the noodles from scratch for each order.

Other popular menu items include the Hot and Sour Dumplings and Oil Spill Noodles.

Jono’s video caused Amy’s noodle bar to completely sell out, prompting queue times of up to three hours for the popular noodles.

Amy’s stall is the only place in Doncaster to try hand-pulled noodles – so it’s no wonder she’s so popular.

We might have to pop over there ourselves!

Mehana Vitosha

  • Traditional Bulgarian spot

Jono then popped over to Mehana Vitosha for some traditional Bulgarian food.

Based on Highfield Road in Doncaster, Mehana has been open for over six years, serving up authentic stews, soups and Bulgarian chicken Sach.

It is also the only fully Bulgarian restaurant within 200 miles!

Jono said the food was an absolute treat.

Highfield Road is home to plenty of authentic and well-loved restaurants, and Mehana Vitosha is no exception.

Since opening, the restaurant ownership has been passed between family members, making it a true family establishment.

If you want to try out a unique cuisine with great, home-cooked food, Mehana Vitosha is the spot for you.

Meat Castles

  • Iconic smash burger spot

Lastly, Jonno paid a visit to the iconic smash burger vendors known as one of the best in the UK, Meat Castles.

Selling a variety of loaded smashed patty burgers, the vendors have gone global, and were even rated #1 Burger by Chefs in The Times 2024 ranking.

The spot operates as a mobile burger business, with weekly location updates on their Facebook, but you can quite often catch them at the Scarborough Arms in Tickhill.

Owner Tom Warwick said he travelled worldwide to find inspiration for his menu, with lots of influence coming from the food scene in Spain and Sweden.

For a chance to sample this viral burger, take a look at their Facebook page to see where they will be located next.

Only Scrans has built a following by highlighting hidden gems in towns and cities that don’t always get the spotlight when it comes to food culture. With millions of views across his videos, his visit puts Doncaster firmly on the radar for food lovers across the country.

For locals, it’s another reminder that you don’t have to travel far for great food.

And after seeing some of the dishes featured in the video… we might have to go and try a few of them ourselves.
