Bawtry has officially entered the national competition to become the UK’s Town of Culture 2028.
Winning the title would grant Bawtry huge funding and recognition.
The initiative, announced by the government last year, will award £3 million to the winning town, with a whopping £250,000 allocated to finalists.
Shortlisted towns will also receive £60,000 to support their final applications.
Bawtry’s bid is being led by Visit Bawtry (Bawtry Retail Association), bringing together key local organisations to showcase the town’s cultural offering.
The application has been backed by local MP Lee Pitcher, alongside support from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Authority and Doncaster Council’s City of Culture team.
On the popular Doncaster boroughs cultural record, Visit Bawtry Chairman Ross Jarvie said: “Bawtry has a long history of cultural events and we are proud of their diversity.
“From farmers’ markets to summer arts festivals, from Boxing Day hunt parades to Pride events, from heritage open days to Bike Nights we try to have something for everyone.”
The application is submitted, so all that’s left to do now is wait!
In the meantime, the town continues to grow its event offerings, with a busy 2026 calendar already planned.
